    Hi,

I have Audi A4 Avant (B6/8E) 1.9 tdi (AVF) year 2004. In last couple of months I am receiving on DIS in dash panel a picture of Brake (like hand brake lamp) which is flashing, light of hand brake and sound as well, but these appear only on uneven road or sometimes when the wheels are slipping and disappear after few seconds. There is no abnormal behavior of the brake, everything works fine.

In control module ABS (address 3) no DTC but in Engine module (address 01) following DTC appear:

    18057 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from ABS Controller P1649 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

All other modules are OK, it is look like that ABS module is communicating with other modules.

Yesterday I cleaned conector of ABS module (and disconnect battery) but did not help, this morning on uneven road again appeared and after few second disappear msg from DIS.

Any suggestion will be much appreciated what to check more.

    Cheers

    Novica

The ABS module might be on its way out.

See if the ABS module will communicate with VCDS when the light is flashing. If you do this while driving, make sure you pull over and stop. That generation of ABS module will not communicate at road speeds.

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking to do the same but it is a little difficult to catch it because that warning does not happen all the time and sometime is very short time on DIS. I notice that this DTC is not always recorded in Engine module even if happen this warning on to my DIS.

Yesterday I changed brake fluid in entire system and this morning did not give the warning on uneven road (as I am passing each day to my work and back and always gave that warning especially when the engine is cold). It is strange but I am hoping that maybe this will resolve the problem and that ABS module is not the guilty one (I am afraid of his price ).
