    hi all
    please help me I have had my 2007 2.0 tdi for 2 years now and 8 days after the warenty run out I had a engine malfunction come up on the dash so I took it to the local VW dealer and after 5 days was told that the crank sensor had gone so £280 later I get my car back. 4 days later the same thing happens again so back to the VW dealer I go 5 days later they say there was a build up of moisture in the d link to the ecu and they have cleaned it up and all seems fine.. on my way home tonight 6 days after getting it back it started to shudder at about 1800 rpm in 3rd gear at about 35 mph just like b4, but as of yet no safe mode. dose anyone know what could be wrong with it as I think I will be going back to the VW dealer soon.. As I said its a 2007 with only 20,000 miles on the clock and now 1 month out of warrenty..
    thanks

    Typical, what engine have you got? It's not the 170 is it?

    As soon as my 170 went out of warranty, all hell broke loose, I couldn't believe it!

    Just got mine back today from having an oil leak from two places, turbo and rocker cover. £184 worse off and it's fixed, 6 month after warranty!

    The bad thing was there was 4 other PASSAT SEL's in there bay, and they only had 8 bays in total! Worrying! However I still love my Passat and would buy a VW next, god knows why!?!

    As to your question, sounds like the fly wheel/ clutch, however only covering 20k I'd doubt it. Other have said injectors which maybe at fault? Orrrrr, the possibility of too much oil? Check your dipstick! You want half ideally!

    Let me know how you get on, I bought a VW for the reliability, since purchase I've not had anything but, but as I say, I love the car...

    A college at work who owns a VW Passat had a similar problem … he took it to the local VW garage and they replaced the crank angle sensors. He never even made it home before the engine fault light came back on. They kept the car for a couple of day and he picked it up with the warning light off, which lasted for less than 20 miles … back to the main agents again … They lent him a Polo till they had resolved the problem, which they did, though it took them 3 weeks …. It turned out to be an earth problem … just which earth point I couldn’t tell you but that was what it was … hope it’s simpler for you and you get sorted.

    If you have a full VW service history, ask for a goodwill gesture from VW towards the cost of repairs.

    Can you tell if yours is a dpf fitted one, some 140's had them fitted as an option, in your logbook the engine number will be BKP,BMP, or possibly BMR, if it's BKP you haven't got one btw.

    At 3 years and 20k, my first remedies would be injector cleaner in half a tank of fuel, and an oil change with engine flush, you may just be blocked up, and it's possible if you do enough small trips the egr valve is coked up.

    yes I have a full vw service history and they are going to give me 60% of the total price back so its not all bad. my engine number starts bkp, so what is a dpf? I did ask them at vw if it could be the injectors and they said no but I gues it wouldn't hurt to put some cleaner in the tank next time i need to fill up, and yes I only do a 14 mile round trip every day all at 30 to 40 mph there is not much traffic around at 4:30 am and I dont finnish till about 18:30 to 19:00 so not much around then either but I do give it a good blast down the dual carriageway every no and then to give it a bit of a burn out and at least once a mounth I do a 100 mile round trip on the motorway. the last oil change wasa about a year ago in the service and was told to rebook it in when the on screen reminder comes on so it might need a change.
    thanks for your help

    DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter

    And they are a pain, so it is a good thing you do not have one.

    Why do I keep getting a quick links thing pop up at the bottom of my browser, it is really doing my head in stopping me using hyphens and commas.

    Cheers Rappy, I use CC anyway, I think it is an option I have selected by accident doing it, I just have no idea which one, only happens on this site as well.

    I wonder if Tom has seen my signature and read the last bit yet.
