Don't go round grounding pins that you do not what they are you are going to damage something or even set off the air bags. Geees. An earth is fer to one brake pad and fed through the pad sensor wire then linked across to the other par ( wired in series) and the output of that pad goes the dash brake wear circuit. if this earthed signal goes open loop then the light comes on. Before you do some damage I suggest you remove the wheels, undo the pad connectors and loop across the connector to check the circuit. Regards Peter

Peter - sensible advice although I did identify the coulour codes of the wires before grounding them; but I guess it wouldn't be the first time that a haynes wiring digram was wrong. Regarding the connector to the pads behind the wheel, I looped this and replaced both pads without clearing the faults so it cannot be the pads.

I too have this problem for the last few weeks. First it was just when I went over the ubiquitous pot hole but now is on and stays on.
Did have a quick look at the connectors and wires when I had the tyres changed last week but could see no fraying or worn wires.

what is the kick panel you are meaning and where is it?

I was just going to pull off the connector (on the caliper) and short it to see if it was the pad sensor or not - but it is still raining

Are these sensors only on the front brakes?

    Thanks

i have this problem too, both sides of the car had been disconnected and joined together, there is voltage on one of the wires which when connected to the passenger pad sensor goes across to the drivers side connector and supplies it with power (series circuit) i have sorted the wiring at both calipers but the light is still on.
i had the dreaded water in the passenger footwell so dropped the glovebox lifted the carpet and got the vax into it, 5 litres of water later all dry (sorted the pollen filter housing,,no more water) now my abs and esp light are on, the red and black plug from the abs sensor (black) and brake pad sensor (red) can be seen without dropping the glovebox, the top kick panel that runs along the bottom of the glovebox towards the bulkhead has a few square holes in it and they can be seen through these, the drivers side plugs are right at the back of the relay panel on the bulkhead under the little tray for parking pennies,(i found these when looking for the fuse for the rear passenger cig lighter) you must drop the panel with the lightswitch on it to access these plugs and the glovebox for the passenger side. i will try and finish my check on these plugs and report back with my findings

well after the weather has finally broken i decided to do a bit poking around, here are some pics of the pad wear plugs on the inside of the car. the glovebox needs removed for the passenger side and the drivers side needs the coin tray under the steering wheel removed but there's not much room to pin the connectors out.
passenger side has BLACK (12VOLTS) and GREEN/BROWN,,when plugged in the 12v runs through the sensor and back down the green/brown wire which connects to the drivers side BLACK (if the passenger side is unplugged there is no voltage on the drivers side so i assume this is the circuit) i will try and find more info and finish the post.
