    Hi,
Can some kind person please tell me how to replace the rear pads and discs on my 2001 Sharan TDI.
I cannot find any guide on how to do this anywhere, how do you retract the calipers and is there an issue with the handbrake. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have to replace my rear pads on my '99 sharan (don't know if they are the same) and if they are anything like my '98 Passat then you will need a caliper piston retractor. This tool will screw the piston in and as I remember, no hand brake issues.
I got the tool from my local motor factor. Sykes Pickvant make them £8-£10 I think.
I will be doing mine in the next couple of days and will post the result.

    cheers,
    Chris.

Here's the retracting tool I was on about. Laser tools make it.

The two lugs on the shiny bit at the bottom of the picture locate in the two recessed parts of the piston and you simply turn anti-clockwise to wind it in. As below.

It may take a bit of pressure to shift it at first, but it should move smoothly after the initial force.

Once you get it going just wind it all the way in. The handbrake is all part of it so will not be affected.

I took the cap off the brake resevior to see if the fluid level would rise dramaticly, but it only raised a little bit (typical). No problem with overflowing! Cleaned the caliper surfaces and copper slipped it and pads. Handbrake did not alter. Job done!
On a different note, do you know how to remove the rear hub for bearing maintenance/re-greasing?
