I would use VAG-COM/VCDS to check the dash panels reading of temperature digitally and if it said 90 when fully hot and the gauge still said 70, I would do an output test of the gauges where the temp gauge should read FSD and the drop back to 90. If it didn’t, the panel would be faulty.

Did you just replace the temp section of cluster,or the whole thing?

You can’t replace the temp gauge, you replace the complete unit. Rebuilding those clusters is a specialist job.

yeah unfortuanatly you have to replace the whole thing.it is possible to get them repaired, aparently, but you obviously have to send the cluster away and i dont no how long or how much this would cost

FSD= Full Scale Deflection! i.e. needle up to the topstop.

the temp guage and fuel guage are easy to replace its only the rev counter and speedo that are integral to the cluster, ive done mine and it took an hour to do with no previous experience, You can buy the guage on its own if you have the part number. Only thing is to make sure you get a b6 one as the needle is different on a b7. Remove cluster then undo the back (3 clips and 4 screws) then the cluster will come out of the case, pop out the wiring connector for the temp guage and the clips that hold the guage in place and fit the new one, reassemble and your done. Dont go buying a whole cluster and waste your cash!
