    hi all,
when i accelerate moderately, i get a squeal(?) from the engine.
best way i can describe it is like a loose fan belt(ish).
if i accelerate harder, the squeal is still there but is replaced by what sounds like leaking air (turbo?)
it was mot'd a month or so ago, and it is only recently that i have been able to drive again.
nothing was done under the bonnet as far as i am aware apart from a new cat.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be a boost leak or an exhaust leak, probably the pipe going into the lower fitting of the intercooler has partly blown out due to clip failure.

It depends on your engine code, which is either ATD, or AXR, as to whether I am right about it blowing off at the intercooler lower fitting. The ATD uses a spring band clip and hose system which does not tend to fail but the AXR uses a push on spring clip system which wears and can blow apart due to wear on the coupling hose barbs or failure of the alloy pipe. This coupling is visible behind and in front of the right hand front wheel.

    thanks for the replies
had a look today (been too busy beforehand!)
can't see any problems with the unions around the intercooler.
it sounds like it is coming from more central in the engine bay, but when driving it is a bit difficult to pinpoint.
tried today without load (stationary) and there was no "squeal".
would it have anything to do with the new "cat" i had to have fitted to get through the MOT?

The new cat could be restrictive or it could be leaking at the bolt face.
