Like the titles says, I'd like to upgrade my '96 A4 Avant to remote central locking, there's loads of kits on ebay, mostly from Hong Kong or the like. Has anybody used any of these and got on ok with them?
I aint looked into it in too much depth yet, but am I right in thinking that I'd mount the reciver next to the central locking pump in the sidewall of my boot?
I've helped a mate fit one of these kits before but it wasn't on a pneumatic C/L system n he paid a fortune for a decent make kit...!

If its got the vacuum pump, its very easy, i would expect it has a similar system to my golf. I used an rclick (has really good range too) unit, which is quite easy to install. (probably +ve pulse trigger, usually two wires, but yours might be a common trigger wire with a +ve/-ve pulse for lock unlock)

Easiest way is to try to find the pinouts of your plug to the pump and work from there. Most of the kits have very similar functions from what i see.

Yeah, mine's got the vacuum pump, I think it sit behind one of the side panels in the boot, not sure though.

I've just been looking on the RClick website, they look good and well priced!

I realy like the fact I'll have a "flippy" type key too!

Would I be right in thinking I'd need the HU66 blank key?

Is it as simple as giving it power, earth and then connecting couple leads for lock/unlock?
The one I helped my mate do was wired into everything!

Mine is behind the drivers rear cluster (or just below it), and yeah its that simple.

Theres definately a 12V permanent feed and a permanent ground feed going into the pump, as long as you can ID those the rest is easy.

Also for the keys (this also confused me), the kits are the same, you just pick the fobs that you want and get the key cut if you wish, i think the only down side is if you do this, you wont have the chip for the pickup ring thats embedded in the key iirc. I think you can even get an audi badge for them too.

    Im quite chuffed with mine!

EDIT: If you do go ahead with this one, the two thick red/black wires need to go to perm 12 and ground to power the unit, the rest is via relays on the top 6-8 wires. Need to extend the indicator wires to reach the clusters, but you dont have to connect them for the unit to work.

Ive left mine off for now, gonna extend them and splice in at the weekend

Come payday I'm getting that kit!
I'll make sure I get the right blank key's cuz I will get them cut and move the transponder for the imobiliser from one of my original keys to the new remote one.
I think I read somewhere that by installing the remote kit the alarm no longer activates as it arms off the key? Any truth in that?

Ha yeah, when I helped my mate install his we connected the signals up wrong so when you un/locked the car it indicated right...!

My pump is literally just behind a panel in the boot, had a look last night, really easy to get to.

The alarm will still activate, your alarm is probably at the front end of the car, this device is just a piggy back upgrade, so your original functionality should still work.

As long as youre wiring directly to the pump, you can have all your functions
