It's a long time since I did any messing about with a car stereo, but intuition tells me that this should be fairly simple, as long as the thing has an aux input of some sort round the back... Just a case of running a lead round from that to the glovebox.

Any chance it is that simple?

If not what's the best option for getting my mp3 player rigged up to the stereo?

    No, not that easy.

You need an adapter. Do a search for Connects2 stuff.

The answer to youur question is yes....See my thread (page 4 post #35)
It emulates your cd changer and allows you to connect any device using a 3.5mm jack....There is another kit similar to that that will do full ipod control but if you're like me and happy with your selections then this will do you just fine with the bonus of being compatible with everything that has a 3.5mm jack

Cheers guys, that looks just the ticket.

Car stereos have changed since the big dirty aftermarket unit I installed in my Metro when I was 17!

Why can't they just have a 3.5mm jack input as standard?!

    Cheers Esse.

Where's good to buy from? I just fonud on Halfords, but it's £50.

Can you briefly outline what's invovled in fitting... do you need to get much dash off to get at the stereo?

No prob (click on the fanks button lmao)

Get it from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Jetta-Touar...item518ff86aa1 same place I got mine del in about 2-3 working days.

    1. Remove stereo facia. Easy to do feel round the bottom above the heater control panel and pull off gentley.

    2. Unplug airbag connector (make sure ignition is turned off when you do otherwise airbag light will come on)

    3. Remove the 4 torx screws and slide stereo out.

    4. Plug the connects 2 kit into the cd changer port. You can't get this wrong it will only fit in the one slot.

    5. Strip back some off the csaing round the free single black wire to expose the copper wire. Tie this into one of the holes on HU chasis.

    6. Plug the phono ends of the 3.5mm cable into the box.

    7. Using the wire hanger start from where you want the mp3 player to connected (e.g. glovebox or driver stowage area) and feed it through till you can see it behind the HU.

Now just simply pull the wire hanger through and you're done.

    8. To play from aux in press the cd button twice and you will have the same screen as in my thread.

    9. Tidy up and place the HU back in and screw in....Plug airbag connector back in and push facia back in all done.

    10. Now go for a drive and enjoy your beats

Sorted might do some pics to go with this.
