What engine code? The glowplugs are under the cylinderhead cover. sort of inside the cylinder head if you know what I mean. If it's a 2.0 pd don't try to buy glowplugs from anyone but VW or NGK. This is very important.

That cylinder head looks almost as complicated as that on my MGB....

I am always taking pics of what I do as it helps illustrate what I help people with on here and for my regular monthly section in The Golf + magazine. I have been doing the Q&A section for that mag for about fifteen years (apart from a short break last year) and they like me to illustrate the answers to peoples questions so if I am doing a job I don’t have pictures of I have the camera to hand. Also it is a bit naughty using aunty Elsa’s pictures as the mods on here tell me off.

Anyway Quat, what type of MGB have you got that has a twin cam 16v PD TDI head!? Incidentally, the wiring harness is removed in that picture

Oh! the memories of adjusting valve clearances! - "tap tap tap tap tap tap". If the 'B' didn't tap it was not well! (unless it was a V8 of course)

The V8's tapped if the oil pressure was low.

I have to say, Crasher, that the PDI engine is the last thing I'd want in my B - I've had my head in a lot of ohv and ohc engines, but I draw the line at VW's. Mind you, the hydraulic tappets are appealing.

Dunkley - the old adage, a tappy tappet is a happy tappet! Mine are 'comparatively' quiet.

Quite, I do believe I inferred that they were normally quiet!
