My 98 cabriolet seems to feel like its being restricted by something it ticks over fine, starts fine and revs fine as well but give it some acceleration in gear when taking off and through some of the gears and it feels like a bad flat spot that takes a while to clear before the engine power kicks in, I've changed the air filter and the air flow meter but its still the same

Could it be an issue with the catylitic converter blocking the airway from the exhaust????
My old Passat petrol turbo had this problem when the liner came loose and blocked the flow inside, it eventually blew the flange off the cat!!

I've had a diagnostic done on the car and they couldn't really find anything apart from a lower reading for the air flow meter, so I changed that and its still not right,

    Could the timing be out??

    Thanks Tony

Sounds like you need to look at the Lambda probe. Check the previous postings from myself.

I've had someone else look at it and there was a fault code on there that hadn't been cleared by the previous garage and this was causing the hesitation in the engine's performance!!

Oh well at least the car now has a new air mass meter !!
