  1. Gamma Radio problem

Please can anyone help me with this problem.

I nave a 2003 VW Passat with a Radio system gamma & CD-changer & CD- player. I recently went to start my car and the the battery was too low to start the car. The radio was on automatically from previous use so I turned this off before trying to start the car again, no luck. I then trickle charged the battery and the car started, the problem is the radio will not switch on or work.

No message "safe" comes up (which it should according to the operating instructions book 3.4). If it did I have the code No. so I could put that in. Strangely the flashing diode indicating the anti-theft coding has been activated is working but can be stopped by pushing the on/off knob and started again by pushing the knob again.

    Appreciate any help.

Did you leave the battery connected whilst charging?
I'd disconnect the battery for an hour & reconnect & try again.
    Have you check the fuses?

Just had exactly the same problem, although mine followed after I cleared the blocked drain holes under the battery that were causing wet footwells. When I reconnected the battery, entered radio code, I now have a spasmodically working radio that won't remember presets and won't turn off - hence the AA man arriving to get me started. I have attributed it to 'ingress of water' from the previously mentioned problem. But I have no idea. Planning on buying a second hand Gamma to replace it.

    Thanks for replying L9000K.

After checking with the hand book it said it was OK to leave the battery connected to trickle charge so I did.

Yes after I sorted out the complicated way to find which fuse is which I checked them and was OK (the fact the flashing diod was flashing means the fuse was OK).

After I had a battery replaced at a main dealer (see my other post about this tail of woe) I am pleased to report that the radio now works.

    Thanks for the interest

    pajbse,

Thanks for your interest. You will see from my reply to L9000K that my problem sorted its self out after a battery replacement.

The only thing I can suggest is that you could try disconnecting and re connecting the battery. According to the handbook the battery should not be fast charged while still connected, was this the case? When I had my problem I found pressing all the buttons several times particularly the TP set button brought it back to life before the new battery.

When battery voltages get low (less than 10v?) the units won't turn on. Jump starts and voltage spikes also sometime "confuse" the units.

Normally removing the supplies to them for 5 minutes performs a hard reset, which kicks them back to life.
