Just replaced throttle body gasket which has been gone for a while but the engine keep cutting out intermittently but not completely. When I Rev the engine I get a flat spot around 12000 revs then it drop to the normal 9000 idle speed. When decelerating and accelerating the car jerks. Does anyone have any ideas I've checked all hoses there seem to be no leaks

You need a scan, but you probably need your throttle body aligning - have you done all the other service work such as plugs leads/cap etc?

If it starts acting up when its warm but more or less fine when its cold then I would say so. The old one might be fine, what you need to do is get it code read - there is a vcds user map on this site where you may be able to ask someone local to you to scan for some beer tokens etc.

I would go for the cap&arm, leads plugs - see how it gets on after this. One thing that is handy to do is cleaning your earth points in the car as best as you can. I've seen all sorts of troublesome issues with dirty ground connections - it also gives you the opportunity to check over the looms for any cracks that you can use electrical tape on to prevent any shorts etc from personal experience.

My wiring loom is 18 years old this year - aside from a few cracks in the plastic on the odd wire (now bandaged) it's holding up well. As long as you take care of these things early it prevents a lot of problems down the road.

Does it act-up after its warm, or is like this when the is engine cold also? (Assuming spark-plugs are changed)

I think you have a couple of problems going on at the same time - once we solve the cutting out we can get to the rest

It does it when it's warmed I must admit I didn't change the plugs but the cutting out makes the car jerky plus it only does it at low revs. When it's on the motorway it's fine. It's just the town driving that it dies and then goes

This does change things, however the spark plugs are important - if they are old the frequency of the ignition may be masking your low rev symptoms. Old sparkplugs may have a wear gap (or fouled with carbon) which is too large to ignite the air/fuel mixture properly. The missfires are most likely more noticeable at low revs - may seem smoother at high revs but also down engine power.

Leads I recommend because when they age, the insulation breaks down in heat and the high tension voltage is lost somewhere against the block via a spark before it even gets to the sparkplug on the cylinder.

Could be a crank position sensor/distributor - especially if this is still on its original distributor. This will most likely show up with a fault code (G60 Hall sender iirc or something similar in VCDS).

Doubtful on coil as you dont appear to have any trouble starting the engine after a warmup/damp weather.

Have had similar symptoms with an injector fault, however I had stuttering under throttle at high rev also and an intermittent rough idle.

It will be something straightforward electrically - lived with these gremlins long enough, lol
