    Hi

Wonder if any one can give advise. Got into my 130 TDI today and started the engine, noticed that the ESP light was on. Carried on down the road and the Glow Plug light started flashing and warning flashed on the display saying Engine Workshop.
So I turned around and went home. Tomorrow its off to the garage but before I go to the local ******** has anyone got any suggestions as to possible cause.
    Many Thanks

    Hi Ahsanx

Thanks for the reply. Checked my break lights earlier but after I posted the problem after reading similar problems on the forum.
My break lights dont work, so theres the problem, something wrong there. I have read that theres a switch below the break pedal that can cause it.
My problem is that I use the car for work so I need it operational ASAP, therefore I either spend tomorrow trying to locate the cause with trial and error and if I fail take it to a garage on Tuesday which means I have two days off or I take it to the garage and hope they can fix it quicky, or provide a courtsey car whilst they do.
As long as I have some idea of what it could be so that I dont get turned over I'm happy, I just dont want to pay for a new turbo, alterator, & glowplugs when I £10 switch would have done the job.
    Thanks for the reply

    Thanks for the replies everyone.
Checked bulbs and found one blackened & blown. Replaced the bulb and the ESP & Glowplugs lights went out. The Glowplug lights did return flashing after few minutes although the ESP light remained off. Suspect another Break light bulb has failed on the other side.
Anyway, to cut a long story short and to prevent boredom the car was only 900 miles from 130,000 service so its now down my regular garage (not a VW Dealer I might add but they do all the work on the Passat) for its service, always a good idea to have the oil changed regularly anyway, and they'll sort out the problem with the light etc during the service.
Will inform you of the results and cost later today when I get the old girl back.

    Thanks again

    Hi Guys

Well got the German Lass back from the Garage, 130,000 mile service done and a full VAGCOM diagonsics (my spelling is awful). The fault said that there had been a spike on the ECU and it is assumed that either a cash wash on Saturday morning got something too wet or that the bulb blew vilently. Anyway they reset the ECU and fully tested the electrics and said everything OK. Touch wood its been OK this evening and to be fair they are pretty good.
Total cost for the work was £150 including VAT.
    Thanks for your help

    Regards to all

    Ian

    PS
The Garage I use is Orbit Tyres in Rushden. Very good service.
