  1. iPod in Golf 5/6 Estate (Feb 09) with RCD 310

I have just bought a second hand Golf 2 TDI Sportline of Feb 09 (great car). The RCD 310 has no CD autochanger so I was thinking of getting an IPod shuffle, load it from my iTunes collection (not large), plug in to the AUX 3.5 adaptor in the arm rest and go. However having read old posts from 2009 I am now not sure.

Will it work and will I be able to select tracks, play lists etc on the RCD 310 or Highline computer or will I have to fiddle with the iPod itself?

Do I have to buy a cable or will the one supplied with the iPod work? There is no cable with the car.

Will this then charge the iPod? Not a lot of use if I have to keep taking indoors to charge.

Is there a better, cheap and simple solution? I don't have an MP3 player and don't think I can download to one from iTunes. How much would it cost to buy and have fitted a CD 6 autochanger and where would it go? Seems likely to be expensive as an afterfitting.

You will all gather I haven't a clue, no good at installing wiring and not iPod oriented. Just want something simple that works.

    Simon

Using the ipod via aux-in will mean you have no control over the ipod from the car (other than volume). It will not charge either, nor will any track info be displayed in the car.

If you want those things then aux-in isnt the way to go, you need to either add the MDI kit from VW or a third party interface.

Thanks Isaac. Sounds like my iPod idea is a non starter. I have since googled fitting a CD changer and it looks like a nightmare for a novice, hamfisted person like me to install and not cheap. Will probably settle for single CD and the radio!
