I have a 2005 Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro with 7" colour screen and a 6 disc CD changer that only plays audio CDs (a big step backwards from my previous usb interface). I contacted the Audi dealer regarding an upgrade to something that will read mp3 files from CD ROM and display track information etc. on the dashboard display.

They quoted £499 to fit a Densian 500, however the CD changer can read data from CD ROMs, as I used it to upgrade the car's mmi software.

    THE QUESTION IS:
Is there a software upgrade that will enable the current CD changer to recognise mp3s (there should be), or a straight hardware replacement for the existing changer?

I've tried to find information on the Internet but haven't found anything detailed yet (just people trying to sell things). All comments and suggestions appreciated, especially of you've had similar experiences.

    As always, thanks in advance.

You cannot reprogram the cdchanger to make it read mp3. You need to replace the changer with an mp3 version

    Thanks for the response.

Any idea of the best place to look for upgrade options (straight swop, or added usb interface) that integrate (i.e. steering wheel controls and track information etc.) with the mmi?

I did buy CD changer removal tools to check the connections, but it seems to be wedged tight in the glovebox .

I found it easier to go to the Dension route; it does integrate with the screen/column controls and supports USB/iPod/AUX inputs...

I have just ordered a plug and play unit from VNS. The unit allows for you to plug your iPod in via a lead into the MMI system, and you still utilise the CD changer as well. It charges the iPod and can scroll through like a CD. Check out their website below. I Paid €201 = £165 currently including postage.

This is a Polish company selling direct to UK and on eBay. The YouTube video on the webpage shows howeasy it is to install.

When it arrives and I install it I'll let you know how I got on.

    OliB,

Yes please let us know. I'm intrigued to see if this will work OK as it's a lot cheaper than the Denison or the Audi AMI option.
