The voice control from what I gather can be instated, Is it there but not switched on?
I think there are two versions of voice control. If you have Audi's phone prep, you should have voice control for the phone only. There was also a separate option to have voice control for everything; I don't think you can simply enable this as I think it actually requires a bit of hardware.

Its mentioned that you can view the maps in 3d can i do this on my car or will this be a later version?
3D maps requires recent firmware. 55.7.0 supports them (even for the 2006 maps).

Im wondering what can be done with my MMI to update it. Hope you can advise. I do have blue tooth and that works fine. Dont have Ipod. The battery meter works on the screen.
Quite simply, you'll need the firmware update CDs which are available, inexpensively, from Audi. And about an hour and a half, preferably with the engine running, to apply the update. Which can be done while driving.

    So to recap -

I go to the Audi dealer and ask for the latest set of CD's for the MMI. I dont need to tell them any thing about the car or system ? As its a colour display with the colour screen between the speedo and tach this means its a high. Its also a 2006 model. Your saying the voice activation for the phone could be switched on all is there for that at present ? And its just a case of putting in the cds one at a time ?

id heard that Id need the latest DVD map version but some others are telling me that isnt the case it will work with my 2006 version.

Hope you can advise and put me on the right path.

    That is my understanding
Its also a 2006 model. Your saying the voice activation for the phone could be switched on all is there for that at present ?
I believe so. My car is also a 2006 with MMI high and Bluetooth phone prep (as given away by the 'plate' in the armrest). Mine has voice for the phone, only, but I didn't have to do anything to enable it
And its just a case of putting in the cds one at a time ?
Yes, though one of them needs to be done twice.

id heard that Id need the latest DVD map version but some others are telling me that isnt the case it will work with my 2006 version.

Hope you can advise and put me on the right path.
    I did this:
Upgraded the MMI firmware to 55.7.0
Upgraded from genuine 2006 maps to bittorrent 2009 maps
...and then I had 3D maps
Then I downgraded back to 2006 maps (because the ripped maps didn't get read properly all the time)
...and I still have 3D maps, for 2006

If I hadn't tried the 2009 maps maybe I wouldn't have been able to enable 3D.

Quick referance 3d veiw has been available before 5570 final mmi 2g release

there is voice control and sds

sds enabled via address 77, just enable the function in the code

voice control is additional to dsp amplifier

if you have both systems they can not be coded at the same time as they conflict each other

the final release 3 disc pack consists of the bt clean up discs and the final mmi update

the first disc erases the bt and the second installs the new sw version

the third disc update is for mmi components like the head unit radio tuner etc

save values in address 07 adaption channels 2 and 11 for car menu functions which may be lost after the update

then re enable them by adding the values in the channels if lost (ie battery manager missing add value 32 to channel 2)

    re bond the phone after

If after the full update you see the message no phone available then re run disc 2

Oh boy - thanks for the information but now I am confused ! Ill need to try and find some instructions on how to do this and to know what to do to ensure that the system still works ! the voice button when clicked on the wheel makes the display between the speedo and tach read not used. Would the equipment be fitted but just not configured ? or would I need to get the kit to make the voice thing work? your saying that this voice thing will be for the phone only. The 3d map thing will work okay once this is installed - take it that it comes up in the menu ?

Ill go and google to see if I can get more info - does anyone have any screen shots of the 3d view?

This was the case for me, I now have the voice activated phone access, HOWEVER, it did knock out my battery meter and several other settings, trip computers enable/disable and high speed warning option.

Its an ok touch but if you are anything like me I find most of the numbers I dial are in the recent;y dialed section.

For me I had the voice for phone only, it just wasnt enabled as my software was too old.

I went into the Audi dealer and they knew nothing of the 3 cd update pack - wanted to sell me the 2010 DVD map discs at over £200. I think Ill save for that one. now wondering if I should try and get these updates done or just leave it be. Knowing my luck Ill crash the flamming system if I fiddle with it.

Was reading the instruction book yesterday and found that I had global closing on the car - set that up and I can now open all the windows or close all the windows using my key fob.... Kinda smart and a bit of a pose.

Hmmm birdview and voice phone control ? Do I really really need it ?

That seems to be quite common. The cd update pack does exist, and is available, but many dealers don't seem to know about it. It should only cost about a tenner.

No you don't! Plus you'll lose the battery meter and trip computer settings (until someone with VCDS restores them). There are probably a number of bug-fixes in the updates as well, and also wider bluetooth phone compatibility, I think. But if your current phone works, there really isn't any benefit.

    Hi

I've read the whole thread and don't think I'm going over covered topics...apologies if I missed it though. So I have the colour maps on my MMI (I have a 2005 A6 estate) and recently took a trip in a friend's brand new Q5. His maps are in 3D and have the remarkably useful function of giving the next 3 directions on the screen. Now do I need the new maps DVD, the MMI software update to do this on mine or can it just not be done? As I say, it's the "next 3 directions" function I'm particularly interested in.

    Many thanks

    NB

From the description you gave, it sounds like your friend's Q5 has the MMI 3G Nav High, which is HDD based (not DVD). To get this system in your A6 would be expensive, but it can be done by experienced retrofitters such as Craig at TCL Satnav.

    MF.
