hi, noob here...bought an audi a4 1.8 p reg last week and have a few issues i wondered if anyone could help.. i have 1 key (small spare type one,no buttons)

    ISSUES:
*when locking the door the central locking pump seems slow (whirs quite a bit,3 secs?) and the doors are sluggish to lock

    £30 delivered off ebay:
central locking pump cheap, easy to fit myself?.. would this solve the sluggish issue?

2*When i lock the car the horn beeps once quietly and the alarm will start blairing after 10 mins or so then stop then start again 10 mins repeat repeat..
so i have to leave it unlocked..(dont have a key fob, just normal key)

    £30 Delivered:
could i buy this keyless remote central locking kit to bypass the audi stock locks..thus stopping the alarm going off unwanted

3*When i start the car,if i turn the ignition off then try to restart it the car won't start..it fires up then goes off afer 2 seconds..
I have to take out the key and re insert it to make the car start again

    £20/£30 Delivered:
Ignition coil needs replacing? maybe i need this/these

    pencil ignition coil

    or

    Ignition coil packs

4*when idle the car nearly cuts out when stood still (rpms dip intermintently nearly stalling) every 4 seconds or so...also does it after revving

    cheers

I'm a bit of a noob too so can only tell you what I know.

1, Mine are pretty slow to lock too, I just live with it!

2, The 1st quite horn beep is to tell you it's locked, as for the alarm going off I dont know, someone else will!

3, Not so sure about that being the coils, sounds more like an imobiliser problem.

4, Sounds like exactly the same fault I've currently got with mine! The throttle position sensor is knackered on mine, so its getting a whole new throttle body on friday.

The best suggestion is to either got yourself a version of VAG-Com and a lead for your laptop or to get a handheld fault code reader. There's some good advice about it here: https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=102960

Plug in and see what faults are listed, then post the codes on here and ask for advice, its worked for me!

    cheers..
Why do people use a vag-com tool to find the codes? You have to go to garage anyway to fix the problems?

Bought this:NEW VAG COM USB DIAGNOSTIC CABLE 409.1 OBD2 II LEAD 06 for £8 to find faults..

Suppose with the codes/issues found i can find cheaper parts needed on ebay instead of dealer prices?

*3.. i've read about ignition reader issues?

4*Maybe the throttle body needs cleaning ?

If I had vag-com I wouldn't be going to the garage to fix the problem I'd do it myself! I cant download it as I only have the net here at work.

*3 could well be the imobiliser coil, there are some usefull threads in this section about that problem.

*4 as you will be able to reset the TPS that sounds like a good place to start. Clean it like those guys said then use vag-com to reset the TPS.
