firstly are the multronic(chronic) and CVT the same thing.
I have a 1999T 2.5 Auto which is also tip tronic. The tip tronic gate is on the RHS. I'm looking for a replacement car, probably a 1.9tdi I see that some auto's have the tip tronic gate on the LHS, is this the dreaded multitronic, the one to avoid. Any years in particular to avoid, or just all of them!

I'm thinking about a 2003/4 1.9 TDI, ideally with leather. Needs to be an SE really, I can't get a sport on my drive due to the ground clearance

Multitronic (yes, I do call them Multichronic, for good reason) is a CVT.

    thanks Crasher.
So is the tiptronic gate on the LHS of these instead of the right as on my auto/tiptronic box? Is this what I'm seeing on some of the photographs possibly?
