For about 5 months now I have been having problems with my internet connection. My original ISP, Orange failed to rectify this, so I changed to Zen Internet, who have sorted it after just 4 weeks

I live in a village, quite a way from the exchange, so I always new my broadband speed would not be the best, but I was happy with a 1mb download. Since Christmas this has just been a constant battle to get, with constant re-syncs of my router, and me getting 512kb more than the 1mb.

Orange sent a BT engineer to look.... no good!

Anyway, 5 months was long enough for them to sort it so I moved...

I explained my problem to Zen tech support, UK based as well, and told him my modem would sync at 1152kbps, every so often, this is the minimum for a 1mb down load, but would then re-sync below this, so 512kb again. He explained it was due to noise on the line, and the length of line, but recommended I purchased one of these

as my signal was distributed around the house, which resulted in some loss of signal.

Simple to change, took 10 mins, and I have connected at 1658kbps... half as much again

As this filters direct from the master socket, I have now removed all my old filters from all the sockets, as they are now not needed.

Only problem is that you can only use the master socket to plug in your router, but there are terminals to allow you to extend the clean unfiltered signal if required.

If you are having problems, or just want to see if you can gain any speed, buy one of these faceplates

Nice one mate, glad you got it sorted in the end. Can't ever say I've had problems, I'm with Virgin media, around 3 miles from the main server. So I fly at 10MB on my line.

But useful for those who are in the same position.

I use to have this problem when I had an ISP on my own phone line as I to live in a village however I've got one already as when work had my connection put in I asked the engineer to fit one, the only problem is I think something is wrong with it, you can hear static on the phone as if you are hearing something underwater and the connection or the router itself keeps dropping. I keep meaning to ask work to arrange me an engineer but its one of those things you always forget
You may think I'm being helpful yet sarcastic, this is only because I feel I need to help you to help yourself in the future
