    Hi Guys
Got a question for you, is it possible to upgrade a DVD Nav system to hard drive Nav system by changing out the DVD Rom player to a hard drive and copying the system DVD files to a hard drive that would be used.
The reason for the question is if it is possible then the read time would be a lot faster due to the speeds of the hard drive over a DVD Rom drive.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thank you for your reply,
the question I was asking is it possible to change out the DVD-ROM and put a hard drive in its place.

This can be done on a PC, as we know so wondered if the same could be done with the AUDI setup, without changing all the components, it would only be a matter of coding the setup so that it sees a hard drive rather than a DVD-ROM I would have thought.

That seems a simplistic view of things.

To give you an example..... even the HDD SatNav still hasn't been cracked.

I'd have thought pulling th HDD and looking at it would have been quite simple and would then enable users to change the POI's and, for example, add Speed Camera info.

However this is still yet to happen.

Unless you're very good and very persistent I don't think you're idea's gonna fly.

However if no one tries then we'd never find out anything

    Good luck.

Agree-the HDD is a difficult nut to crack, audi won't give you any info on the make, model etc and despite the best efforts of a few friends of mine, adding speed cameras to the POI has not been achieved so have given up and just got a speed camera detector hard wired !

Good luck and let us know if you have any luck!

The make and model are easy. I found that just playing through the hidden menu. However since it's just a ruggedised laptop disk, it doesn't really help us.

Really interesting... I dare not pull mine out, but am very curious if the data on there is just a big BLOB, some interesting folder structure, a mountable ISO or a database of some kind (encrypted or not).

It would be sooooo cool to find out the format of this, most likely voiding your warranty in the process?, and then have the ability to add custom POIs. Alerting on POIs, like speed cameras, I guess is a whole different kettle of fish, as there is no POI proximity alerting functionality for anything right now?
