    Hi,
im really hoping that someone can help me by providing some information. I have/had a 55 plate a4 1.8t sport convertable which was stlon 3 weeks ago. As far as the police are concerned on this matterit is off the face of the planet and probably taken on the back of a truck for a shopping list. The insurance company say the same sort of thing. However the insurance pass their claims to be investigagted over to a company called TCF who are adamant that the car can not be stolen and insinuation boardering on accusation that it was me. It was not and and they have no reason to suspect. I have never made a claim on insurance weather it motor home or even mobile phone or have any criminal record. So im looking for a bit of info. The insurance company are ready to pay out when they get the report. I have been in touch with tcf and I dont know if what they are telling me is true or they are trying to string this whole issue out for as long as they can and thinking they are putting the frighteners on me. They claim from 2005 the audi a4 key has a chip inside which tells them the exact mileage of the car, last time the engine was started, how long the last journey was and where it was to. They say it has been sent to their specialist key investigators to examine and could take several weeks. IF this is genuine, fine I will take it on board as another ****** process in my claim, but if not I will be reporting them to my insurance company for harrasment and accusation and time wasting on my cliam. I have asked a few people about this and no one has heard of it. They say my ecu computer in my car would give mileage info etc but tey have never heard of a key doing this. any info would be greatly appreciated as they kids have broke up and no car to do a thing with them whilst tcf mess me about. thanks again

Sounds unusual to me, if I were Audi, I'd advertise a feature like that as it's quite cool

I can't say yes or no though, try calling Audi Customer Service (it's 0800 699888 I believe) and see what they say. Ask for it in e-mail/writing if you need it.

The chip in the key does not contain any such info as far as I know, the car contains some info but not the key, tell them to pay up or you are going to the insurance ombudsman and report them for intimidation.

cheers BEZ, these insurance companies are shocking. If they are refusing to pay your mate its like saying you are only covere for theft at your home address on your drive rather than being out and about. I wouldnt mind as much if they said you have to wait a certain length of time for a pay out rather than making up a blatant lie
