Just been checking the Service History of a potential buy, and wondering if you guys can confirm my understanding of the "official" (if not necessarilty adequate) long-life service plan for a B6 Passat.

I'm not too clear on when "oil change service", "interval service" and interval service inspection" are meant to be carried out, or for that matter, exactly what each entails.

    Anybody got a handy link?

Cheers Martin. Do you know what each service type entails?

I presume both "interval service" and "interval service inspection" include an oil change (hope so at 20k miles!), and it seems the latter includes air and fuel filters, and presumably more checks?

Hi, I don't think that the interval service inspection includes an oil change - this is done every 18k miles on the longlife service - the interval service inspection is meant to be inbetween this.

I've ignored the interval service inspection ever since I had the car - I think a waste of time, a way to get the dealer more cash and a lot of it is simply what it says - an inspection. I couldn't justify spending nearly £250 on a proper service, and then around £150 on an inspection - that's like a cambelt change every year!

If you look at the charts you can work out roughly what should have been done at what mileage. The service book will have little tick boxes for the major things like cam belt.

Sorry if I was direct there Dan, with the LL servicing it's when the dash tells you, I didn't know it but my car didn't get it's 1st service until 24k, that was nearly 2.5 yrs before it had an oil change, now call me old fashioned but 15k for oil is imo too long, personally I would change oil and filter every 10k or 12k at the longest, hth.

Thought id ask me question here instead of starting a whole new topic.

My B6 was an ex fleet car so its on the long life service..last service was done at 91K and car is now on roughly 104K..

Is there anyway of checkin how many more miles till me next service or is it the case of just waiting for the ding?

Ive tried pressing that spanner button but think the only spanner in the car is me at the moment as im not getting no where..

And as i do more inner city driving i think ill change to every 10k service instead of 20k cuz thats too long me thinks.

    Cheers

    Cheers

You need to press and hold the spanner button with the ignition on but without starting the car, it'll then show how many miles and or days to the nesxt service.
