    Erm, well then, I'm a bit obsessed with thunderstorms and like to know whats what !

    You lot have probably seen this before but I think this has got to be just about the coolest'ist thing on the internet (see link below)

    http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm

    Scroll down the page a bit for live storm radars.

    Here is another.

    Interesting how the location of the storms vary.

    This however states that there locations are accurate and have been verified.

    I set my camcorder up at night and pointed it at a small storm going past my house - It was quite a way away but after some editing got the footage below.

    I just got sent these by a mate of mine, not sure when this was but it doesnt happen too often in built up areas, not in the UK.

    Jeez, that looks close - and powerful! I set up my laptop with the Isle of Wight weather centre yesterday and I was amazed at just how many lightning strikes were occuring yesterday morning. Lincolnshire was a mass of strikes in the half hour loop, then from nowhere, it all kicked off on the South coast and to the north of London. well worth a lokk if you're stuck inside in any case.
    Cheers, Trev..

    A year and a bit on....

    Looking out of the windows here at home it seems like there are some real thunder heads brewing up.

    Shame really as I'm off with the family very early tomorrow morning to the South of France for a week. Not that a few thunderstormes would be better than going on holiday but so far this year there has been nothing in the way of stormes.

    Just to re-affirm the links for some good storm tracking sites, the two best I've found are;

    http://www.blitzortung.org/DF/Webpages/

    http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm

    Scroll down the Isle of Wight page for live data.

    Warning; If you in any way interested in the weather, these sites can become a bit of an obsession.

    There was some weird activity around here last night. The weekend has been beautiful, then around 10 o'clockish there were occasional lightning flashes, then at about half past eleven there was a sudden downpour for about 10-15 minutes, then an another lightning flash but accompanied by a big old rumble, then that was it! It's been scorchio again all day so far, so it seemed to just be a random weather tantrum! Weird!
