open to diesel and petrol varients.

Last saturday i drove to edingburgh. A45, M42, M6, M74 and A702 through Biggar to edingburgh. The next day i drove home. 320 miles each way and a bit of running around this morning and the odometer read 669.7 miles when i refuelled at tesco. On the way up the car dis said an average of 50mpg and on return 52ish. Was doing between 50 and 70 on the motorway when traffic and roadworks allowed.

    So what have you achieved?

485 miles and that was using 68 litres of a 70 litre tank, now I have a new turbo fitted I might get more!

So I can see what extra economy you TDI drivers are getting

I did have a 1.9TDI B7 before and regularly got 650+ miles from a tank but can't recall the highest I ever got with that car.

Vast majority of my miles are short journeys - 10 miles or less - and I average about 540 miles before I need to fill up.
I'm looking forward to a decent drive to cornwall and back next week (310 miles each way) to see how far I can get.

Typically I get around 450 out of mine. Normal commute is around 10miles each way with mainly motorway driving.
Driving for work is normally longer but slower on b class and unclassified.

Driving to Liverpool in October for holidays (airport, not holidaying in Liverpool!!) so should get there and back on one tank - approx 450miles.

I'll be using cruise control and sitting around 65mph so average will be interesting.

Best so far is 580miles from 60litres of diesel. About 90% motorway though and my journey to work is just over an hour each way so a nice decent mtorway stretch each day. Not sure if the engines "cleans up" with regular motorway driving but was only getting 450 miles when I bought it 4 months ago...

depends mate, if its a brand spanker it'll certainly loosen up over time thats for sure and will help!
But remember, if you've been doing long journeys over a period of time your average mpg will go up and you will get better mileage.....similarly of course if you start doing a lot of stop / starts and around town it will fall

ok, going to glasgow very early on thursday am. leaving cov at ~3am via birmingham wholesale markets to collect an order. will be stopping for a mcdonalds breakfast before 10.30 so will be just north of manc, hopefully leyland / lancaster ish. got 10 hours for a nice uber economic drive.

doing some running about on friday.

coming back on saturday morning. depending on mood and time will depend on speed of the drive as we have to collect son from nanny and grandpa and i have an appointment with some alcohol sat night in solihull so don't want to be too knackered.

will be fuelling the A4 wednesday evening from morrisons as the forecourt slopes slightly so i can get that extra dribble of fuel in.

my apologies for the poor english and sentence construction in this post.

Diverting slightly from the distance on a tank subject, does anyone feel the refuelling count down is very cautious? I've run mine to zero miles remaining and i still cannot fill it up to the supposed capacity. My old ford used to give you about 5 miles once you hit zero but my A4 seems like i could get another 30-40 miles. If i dared!! What is everyone elses experience?
