Any help on this would be much appreciated.

I've got a 2.0Gti Mk4 115bhp. It seems to be running a bit crap to be honest .. when it's idling it fluctuates you can sort of hear the engine judder a bit.

When i drop down a gear and turn into a sideroad then accelerate away sometimes it judders and splutters with a real lack of power. I sometimes get this going up hill.

It generally doesnt seem that quick of the mark although I realise it wont be stupidly quick it doesnt seem right.

I thought it might just need a service which i will be taking it for this weekend but i've read things about the MAF? and I thought i'd see if anyone had any similar issues.

    Cheers

    Rick

Similar problems to what i had, most likey the MAF.

Cheap fix, brilliant results as i experienced.

have it checked out. Also use the search option ( on the navigation bar at the top of this page) and you will find loads and loads of threads on this topic.

    Good luck

Well i think VW charge sumink like £130 when i asked them.

My Mates uncle charged me £90.

But after all that, i now think that was lil steep. However The part will prob cost around £50ish and so he charged £40 labour for a 10 min job (at the time i didnt know how simple it was).
But i didnt bother to complain. As i drove out the garage it was like i was driving a new car, the power and pick up was back.

But anyway thats how much you should look to pay, around £70 - £130

Good lUck and let us know how it went

p.s. Heres a write up if you wish to have a go yourself.

Coil packs not expensive - its the one thing i haven't changed on my bora but i think its the culprit as my cars symptoms are the same as yours. i changed the MAF, didn't help - if anything gave me worse fuel economy but worht doing as it can damage engine over time. you can clean the MAF and would sugges this rather than forking out the £65 replacement cost.
try restting the ECU by un-connecting the engine over night. mine has improved since although still has slight misfire but diagnostic check not picking up - may be fly wheel. leave the battery disconnected on the right hand side for 12 hours and see if this gives results. when parts are replaced the ECU's don't get recalibrated so this helps to do that.

if poss, let me know how you get on. mine doesn't feel like 115 bhp at all and i can't lay my finger on the reason at present.
