Are perished according to my local dealer who wants £350 + VAT to replace them .

So any clues as to how I find out if they are actually perished and what do we think of that price (1.5 hours per bush apparently)?

    Thanks in anticipation.

If they don't fail an MOT I would ignore them. The rubber deteriorates as soon as the car is sold.

I did wonder as it passed its MOT two months prior and I have felt no difference in steering/handling etc.

The rear bush assemblies are £45 each so £350 + vat seems a bit high. If the car passed its MOT 2 months ago I would think the bushes are fine.

Told the same a couple of months ago, did them myself and they didn't fail the MoT which the dealer did also.

Easy to get off but bit harder to get on. I used plenty of silicone grease and a ratchet strap and that made it easier.

i dont know if you can find them in eurocar parts or gsf or parts shop but in vw dealership are about 50 quid each.If you are ok with a bit of dyi you''l do them in 2-3 h yourself and save the diference. It only 3 bolts, and basicallly you can go wrong when put it back.A helping hand would be perfect as when you want to fit the new part it could push the arm with a bar towards the place it should be,otherwise you'll need the racet.Plus don't forget grease and WD40.Good luck.I paid mine 20 pounds in eurocar parts but they run out and never had any since.

Thanks for the responses much appreciated. Too old and grumpy to do it myself so will ask the local Indy for a price sometime. My car was in the dealers having some warranty work done when they flagged it up. Also they fixed a loose airbag wire (crap job with yellow insulating tape) under the passenger seat to solve the airbag light problem. Its come back on again and they want £79 just to investigate in case its not a recurrence of the same issue.

So that's £79 to attach it to a computer and read a code . mental.

It's a common fault on a lot of other cars (BMWs etc.). They 'fixed' mine three times before the eventually cured it with a new airbag somewhere (all under warranty I'm pleased to say).

Yeah, that's a real money spinning gold mine for the dealers. Apparently it's a common fault - the wiring loom is a little short and the cable pops out under the seat. £80 to reconnect the cable and clear the fault on the computer.

Apparently it's not covered under warranty either, as "wiring" isn't covered.

The passenger seat airbag repair was done under warranty for most people, usually while the car was in for a service. VW issued a repair bulletin for it. It basically meant cutting the connector off and soldering the wires together instead of having a connector.
