I did bring up my concerns with Stuart in a private conversation about advertising products that The Department of Transport says are illegal to sell and use in the UK. It seems that people do not take this seriously, that because so many people are doing it and that they think it is OK, it has become some sort of optional law, one that you respect if you feel like it and ignore if you want aftermarket HID’s on your car. Personally I think it should be an MOT failure (which it isn’t) and that the few Police we have on the roads should be able to stop and prosecute the users of non factory fit HID lights. One day someone will be seriously injured or killed as a result of these lights and only then will something be done about it, maybe. Personally I keep hoping that people fitting them will electrocute themselves or (as I have seen and heard about) fry the vehicles electronics due to back EMF.

I agree with you that they are a nuisance and would happily see them gone too.

I cant believe that they are not an MOT failure if they are illegal!!! Where is the sence there?

You cant expect people to take this seriously if it doesnt fail an MOT and new cars have them.

I wouldn't expect police to enforce this law or be able to destinguish between factory and non factory lights, A big retrain bill involved there and you would not be getting to the root of the problem.

I have a sneaking suspicion that big car manufactures with all the money they have invested into this system has a bearing on the legality of this system

Why don't you go the whole hog and fit a light bar on the roof too? If the police catch you - they'll throw the book at you with a possible custodial sentence.

trying not to jump on the band wagon but, HID kits are sold as "not for road use" while the kits ive seen have said this, so that makes it down to choice, i myself do have them and living on dartmoor made driving in the winter a tad easier (fog rain that sort of thing) my car passed the MOT 2 wks ago fine as crasher pointed out, the old bill round here wont do anything about HID's regrardless and TBH ive fitted these's kits to a few coppers own cars so they take no notice of the law, anyway back to topic if you really want your headlights to flash log on to www.mk3oc.com find a user called ADZ and pm him he sells kits that will make your headlights flash, and then if you want im sure halfords can sell you some mirror dice just to finish the look lol

I wonder if you can still get those self adhesive wing top edge Touring car style splitters that I think RGA used to sell, they could make a suitable accompaniment.

European Law (which definetely includes Southern Ireland and I believe Britain) Dictates that all vehicles with Xenon lights will have Self-levelling suspension and headlamp-washers. I am certain!!
But cannot be arrsed finding the REF! Do it yourself!!
Or find your car impounded when you fancy having a drive around the continent and get stopped for a minor infringement.

Indeed they need to be self-levelling and have washers- I did the maths on getting OEM Audi Bi-Xenon's fitted with the washers and levellers and it was very expensive- think I'll just make do with the Philips Xtreme bulbs.
