Firstly, any experiences of or thoughts on Autoquake.com gratefully received!
I've seen mixed reviews, but nothing like as bad as the comboys at Carcraft etc. Most gripes seem to be more to do with them not being bothered to sort the paperwork in time, and having to sit around for half an hour, which while not ideal, I could live with!

Secondly, the question of warranties (in general and specific to Autoquake). While I don't want to sound panicked by the threads I've read about oil pump disasters etc, and know the majority find their Passats to be pretty trouble free, I don't want to be one of the unlucky ones that suddenly has to find £1,500 to get his car back on the road.
Have many of you got non-VW warranties on your cars, post expiry of the original? If so, who from, and what did they cost? What do you have to look out for to make sure your getting a decent policy?
I got a quick price on the warrantydirect.co.uk, and it was like £500 for a year, whereas Autoquake will do 3 years for £659. Is this good value, or have I missed the fact that it covers everything except faults with the car?

As always, I await you guys' invaluable advice!

I have warrenty direct on mine, 06 1.9 . ring them and negotiate, I got top level cover inclu airbag and emissions with main dealer could be used for £370 a year including paying it monthly with no charge. It was miles cheaper than what they originally quoted.
I went with them after much research on internet and talking to service manager.

    Cheers Steve, good advice.

They actually keep calling me now, but I've not had time to talk to them yet (and explain that I don't even have the car yet!).

Are there any exclusions to look out for?

I basically want to know that if I purchase a warranty and something big happens (eg fuel pump goes, taking out turbo with it etc), I'll be covered...

In the deal I struck when buying my car I got the best warranty they did from this lot.

    http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/

Cost me £170 but the trader got it on my behalf, sounds unusuaL but it would have cost a lot more if I got it myself.

Research shows good and bad reviews but its the same for any warranty company.

If you request a price online they send you an email every month with a slightly better deal.

    Cheers Stuart.

    Hi Dan,

From what I researched its pretty good cover, you want the level to pay main dealer, but just keep bargaining with them, its pretty amazing how good a deal you can get. Have quotes from others to use as bargaining tools!

I bought my passat from autoquake as no-one could match the price anywhere. Good clean car with FSH and lots of bits 140 Tdi Sport, its a bit of a sales conveyor belt but there was no high pressure salesmen. I went with a 12mth warranty from Car care plan (autoquake arranged) and they've just paid best part of £950 for a new ECU (can't fault the service I got).

Oh and I had to sit around for 45 minutes (take a book) and don't expect a test drive.
