I have just picked up a Passat Tdi sport and it has a hands free kit in it, which I have no use for and I want to remove it. In particular I want to remove the cradle bracket which is fixed between the facia trim around the esp and hazard buttons. My question is how much of trim do I have to remove ?

It looks like if I could remove surround around the radio, climate controls and buttons I would be able to get at the bolt and remove the bracket. Is this possible ?

Or am I gonna have to remove a LOT more than that ?

    Thanks for any help,

if i remember right you should take off the trim that goes around the climate radio ect.....the bracket might have a couple of barbs on it so DO NOT just pull it out or you might rip out half the trim with it.......which is bad

I was able to remove that piece around the climate control and that showed four torx screws that appeared to be holding the climate control unit, they also looked like they had never been touched. When I find the right tool I shall remove the auto changer as it appears to need different tools to the radio.

Assuming your radio is the original VW Gamma, the CD changer should use the same release keys as the radio.

Ok I have removed it now, but I thought I would just write up what I did so anyone else will know what to do if they have similar set up. This is for cars with stereo, dash cd changer and climatronic.

First remove the switches on either side along with the blanking bits of plastic. Remove the stereo and the CD changer. Remove the plastic tray which sits between the the stereo and cd changer this is just clipped in. Next very carefully prise away the trim surrounding the climatronic unit. You have now expose all the screws holding the trim in. At the top of the trim above the stereo there are two screws aligned vertical just inside the top edge of the surround trim, remove these. Then remove the four screws holding the climatronic unit in. Pull this away but you don't need to disconnect it. You then need to remove the four U clips that these screws went into. Then unclip the trim and remove it.

If like me you had trouble removing the CD changer with the radio keys, you can push the retaining catches in with your finger thought the holes that the switches went in. I am not sure which keys you need but the ones for the gamma unit would not release the CD changer for me.

Removing the trim also allowed me to tidy up the wirring loom for the stereo as I had to fit an adapter for my Blaupunkt stereo.

    Hope someone finds this usefull

Thanks for this as I need to remove mine to see if the nokia bluetooth unit is behind it as the mic has stopped working. Where can you get the keys from to remove the stereo? Also how do you remove the switches down either side. do they just prize out with a screwdriver?
