Speaker or wiring?

Intermittently, the front nearside speaker in my car stops working for no apparent reason; its not all that often, and seems to happen from start up, with the fault eventually clearing as I drive.

The other day, I also thought I heard a distortion to the speaker on that side, although I can't be sure.

The longest the fault has been apparent was today, when it lasted an entire journey when I went to collect Mrs C from work - as she got in the car, I asked her to tell me which speaker driver was working on her door (if any_ and they both were (and everything was fine all the way home).

Any opinions as to whether I have a wiring fault or a driver fault, and how to go about curing it?

I have the same problem on the drivers side - a quick bash of the hand on the speaker grille sorts it... I've been told it's just the wiring connection to the speakers - easily sorted if I could be bothered to remove the door card (probably the hardest part of the job)...

Get some new door card poppers first, you will need them if you want the panel to fit nice afterwards, there's 6 iirc, 50p each.
