Just picked up my 2005 A4 Avant (2.0TDI) and very happy with it, except...

It has the phone prep low (cradle in the armrest) with bluetooth and MFSW (which was a surprise as the garage didn't mention it) and the Concert Stereo. It dashboard has the red and black MMI basic. I have managed to pair my Iphone to it, and can make and receive phone calls, and managed to create a few phone book entires in the cars voice phone book.

    However,

    1. I cannot get it to delete any phonebook entries (or the entire phonebook) - If I use the voice command "Delete Name" or "Delete Phone Book" - all I get back is "The Function is not possible" (I also get this with "Enter Pin" but don't need that as I don't use a SIM lock) - all other voice commands work (Play phone book, dial number, store name etc). If I say "play phone book" it does read back the entries I have made.

    2. The Iphone (3GS running IOS4) does not share its phonebook with the car, so I am reliant on the cars voice phone book (better than nothing). I have read threads where users have got their Iphone to share the phonebook with the car, but not sure how.

Does anyone know how I can resolve these? Can the phonebook be removed with VAGCOM? Are there any firmware updates for the phone prep (and how would it be done? I would be worried about filling up the phone book and not being able to delete it when I come to sell the car.

Any help would be gratefully received

    Dave

    UPDATE:

Last night the voice controls started working and let me delete contacts and the whole phone book. The only thing I did differently was turn up the volume of the Voice Command Speech (using the Concerts Volume control) - so it was almost painfully loud.

Does anyone know if turning up the volume of the Audi's speech also increase the sensitivity of the microphone?

However still no luck with the Iphone. I have even put my Iphone SIM into a 10 year Nokia and created a small number of SIM contacts (with just 1 phone number), but they still don't appear on the DIS.

My Wife's Nokia 6220 Classic connected to the Bluetooth OK, but just sits there saying Please Wait on the DIS, as though it is uploading the SIM contacts - but we have left it for 2 hours and it never finishes. Am going to try the Nokia 810 Contact Manager as suggested in other forums, but if anyone has any other ideas why this would be I would love to hear.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Hi,
I have the same problem my LG Arena works fine but will not display the sim contacts on the Dis, there is a list of phones that should work I think it is on the Audi web site but with newer phones you take your chances

You're right, its hidden away on their global website (searched for Bluetooth on Audi.com) and only the old iphone is supported (not the 3G or 3GS). Also my Wife's Nokia doesn't have phonebook (SIM or Internal) supported - so explains a lot.

Looks like we will have to make to with the voice activated phone book and just put in the key numbers we are likely to use (and have to guess who is ringing us)

I do miss my Parrot - that worked seamlessly with almost any phone

I have a 2008 A4 B7 with RNSE & bluetooth prep in it. I have recently got an HTC HD2 and the Audi was unable to display the SIM contacts. I found the problem was only if I had a PIN on the phone, if I got rid of that it works perfectly and the car/bluetooth can access the SIM contacts etc without issue. Not sure if that might be relevant to your problem.

If anyone knows how to get the bluetooth to work with the phone when the phone does have a PIN, that would be great as I'd prefer that from a security point of view.
