    Hi all,

I've been lurking in the background for a few months now as I contemplate my next purchase.

I've decided on the 2.0TDI S-Line Saloon and am currently in negotiation with Blackburn Audi who are very keen to let me know that a £1000 deposit over the phone will put the wheels in motion...!

I've not requested anything additional aside from the standard kit that now comes with the S-Line. DAB is something I want but will leave that for my parting comment as I prepare to read the digits of my debit card to him!!

The price quoted by the dealer for the car is £28,419.98 with the dealer putting in £2000 contribution. By my poor maths that would work out to be a 7% discount of the list price, ideally....... and boyed by posts on this great forum........ I want more!!

I'm hoping for some suggestions regarding negotiating tactics and what I should be looking for - any help gratefully recd.

    Paul.

Welcome matey and nice choice of car.

I paid £27,379.00 (from memory and the odd was under £500)

    143PS TDI S line exec
    Multitronic
    Lava
    19"s
    3G MMI
    Cruise
    Interior Light Pack
    Hill Hold
    Folding Mirrors
    Parking Plus

Get a price on line from Dealdrivers, Drive the deal or UK New Cars to get an idea of where the dealer should be and negotiate.

I would always suggest going to more than one dealer, I tried three and contact them all with spec you require and try the 'I will order in 5 hours time to the one who is cheapest'.

I would also suggest ordering later in the month and at quarter end ie the end of this month.

    Good Luck and barter hard

    Pitch
HIS - XC90 D5 R Design (sorry, had to be done)
    TOY - 2001 Westfield 2.1 SEW,172bhp SOLD TO MY BROTHER, I needed a PANERAI.
HERS - 'R' New 7spd DSG and 310 rampant ones. 4.2 off the mark will do nicely

Personally I would visit several dealers for the best price. You will almost always get a better deal face to face, as a dealer knows if you are ringing round say 3 dealers, that he most likely has a 1 in 3 chance of your business. If you see them face to face and they see the ‘buying signs’ in you, they should be keener to stop you leaving without first giving them the ‘lovely’ deposit they so clearly want. At least when I sold cars this was how it was and I can’t see it changing.

In recent years I got a quote off DtD or Broadspeed etc and tried to get a dealer to get close to those figures. After all if the dealer actually matches DtD every time and also has to support the huge overheads of his/her business, then they will go bust pretty quickly. I am reasonably happy to pay a little more to the dealer than to go with the internet sites, as I want the dealer to stay in business and look after me

Thanks for the replies guys (& gal), I've been to four different dealers now (Stockport, Manchester, Leeds and Blackburn) and none have been willing to push further than the discount they've already offered.

With that in mind, and in agreement with your point Amanda, I'm inclined to place my order with Blackburn who couldn't do enough for me.

I've looked at approved used, and to be honest they can't compete with a new order on the PCP deals I'm going for.......so a shiny new car it is then!

Sales chap is quoting end of September delivery...........12 more weeks Saddleworth to Leeds every day in a 1.2 New Polo!

Hi there. What rate / deal did you get? Been quoted 10.9% APR for a PCP deal.

I got mine new with the low rate PCP finance on offer from Audi and a £500 sweetener also provided by them. This didn’t come out of the dealers pocket so there was room to negotiate on the price of the car separately. So far Audi Warrington have been great. I will wait to see if they help fix the creaking clutch pedal with the same enthusiasm that the salesmen (Mark) showed when he sold and delivered the car.

Hi there, they're offering 6.3% APR which I think is some sort of new car promo.

That seems a similar promotion to the one I took with Audi. If it is the same, then £500 of the ‘Dealer Contribution’ comes from Audi, so the Dealer is only putting about £1,520 towards the deal. You should work this figure into the discount you are aiming for and not the £2,020 contribution quoted in the example. Of course this assumes that the deal is constructed in the same way as mine.
