    Hi all...

I'm after a 52 plate ish and can't afford an S4 version! Which engine size/model is a good option to get and which to avoid?

ie am I going to miss out on anything if I just get the 1.8T and and not the 1.8 Sport?
    Is the Diesel too slow?
Is the 1.8 better than the 2.4 petrol?

    Please enlighten me

A lot of questions, you need to start by asking yourself what you want to use it for though! For example, if your planning on doing 1000's of miles then a big engined petrol version might not be your ideal solution! In short, if you dont get a sport model you normally get smaller alloys, a single exhaust pipe, and softer suspension. The diesels are not slow, but as with all diesels you've got to keep the turbo spun up for them to shift. A 1.8T developes its power differently to a 2.4 V6, as with the diesels you've got to keep the turbo on a 1.8 spun up for it to shift, wheras a V6 will have more torque in the lower revs to pull you along. In short, think about what you want to use the car for exactly & go test drive a few different options once you've figured it out!

Thats good info... I've basically just sold my 2 seater sports car (not Audi ! ) because The wife is expecting. I've been researching the TT (being 4 seats... ish) and realised that it really isn't too practical once I'd tried the baby seat in!!!

My wife has the Allroad and although is quite fast (surprisingly) I need something not too far from a sporty model! I thought I couldn't afford a convertible A4 but I've stretched the budget.

So in short! something reasonably sporty yet not too expensive or rare as I need a car soon!

I'd say to go for a 1.8T or a 1.9TDi in which case then, both are popular engine types and not too thirsty to boot. Now go test drive them!
