    Hi all

I am looking to go away camping for a few days and want to be able to power a 12v cool box for the duration of the trip. The only problem I have found is that the 12v socket in the boot is an ignition live rather than a permanent live.

The socket will work ok while I am driving, but useless when I am parked up.

Is there any way of changing the 12v power socket in the boot from ignition live to permanent live? Is it somethingI could change with VAGcom or get the dealer to change?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Anthony

Can't help with the permanent live question but can say from experience a fair sized 12V cool box will flatten a car battery in around 6 hours.

    Cheers

The 12v socket can only be made permenantly live by changing the wire feed and fuse in the fuse box.

Yes, trace it back to the fusebox, and then splice the wire into a permanent live feed is probably the easiest way. Strange this would be on a switched live - the 12v sockets in my current Octavia estate are permanent live which makes it useful for charging stuff in the boot when the car is parked up for the day.
