    Hi,

My orange engine management light is on 80% of the time, but the car itself (2006 3.0tdi quattro A6) seems to be driving perfectly. 52k FASH etc.

Would anyone here be able to help me with the following scan results please, which can be ignored and which should I follow up.

Any help will be hugely appreciated.

The engine is an ASB by the way, just thought I would add that.

The fist code 12597 (P3135) says that the inlet manifold motor number 1 V157 is faulty. This is the flap unit on the engines right hand bank. These often fail and I think if you had a power or earth failure you would have other fault codes from components running off the same circuit.

The glow plug faults strike me as either a faulty glow plug control unit or simply that the 80 amp fuse has blown which is fuse B in the electronics box in the plenum chamber which is where the glow plug control unit is also located.

The other codes I have seen before and the battery regulation one is the clue, I suspect your alternator has failed, I am seeing a lot of this on the 3.0 TDI.

Many thanks for your quick reply - and sorry for the ignorance I am about to display....

    1) what is a ASB engine.....

    2) Are any of these faults "major problems", it's just that I'm due to drive off the Southern France in a few weeks and wondered what if anything I need to resolve....?

    3) Which of these faults is behind the orange engine management lights?

    4) So if the code 12597 (P3135) says that the inlet manifold motor number 1 V157 is faulty, is this a job I can take on or does it require a "proper" mechanic? Why haven't I noticed any problems or issues with the car ?

    5) Ref the glow plugs I will check the fuse shortly. But the car has always started perfectly - even with 2 ft of snow on the ground and after being left for 10 days - surely a failed glow plug controller would not allow this

    6) Are you suggesting my alternator has failed but it is alright now? Never had a problem with battery or starting etc?

The only thing I've realised, as I've been typing this in actually, is that a lot of these seem to have the same date stamp of 28th January. I THINK that this was the day I dug my car out of the snow after leaving it for a week so that I could pull my next door neighbours BMW Z4 out of her drive. Can't think what this might have to do with it, but can't help but think it might be worth mentioning.

    Sorry for the long response.

    Cheers

    Chris.

012597 - Intake Manifold Runner Control: Lower Stop not Reached
    P3135 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

replace the manifold which also comes with the motor, the motor ball socket wears on the shaft (very common)

The glow plug fault occurred only once but experience tells me to replace all of them.

battery manger fault is just recording stage one and the common alternator fault is over voltage so clear and retest after a couple of days.
however the fault has a static entry and occurred 2 times so I would check the df signal to the battery manger

You can also add battery display to the mmi to monitor the charge.

    Go to address 07
click on the adaption function and select channel 02 and add 32 to the current value then save
then go to channel 111 and set to 1 for a mmi restart
You now have battery display in mmi car

    Thanks for response A8 Tech.

I guess I'm out of my depth here...but just don't need to be ripped off at the dealers with summer holidays approaching :-(

Is the inlet manifold (with motor) a difficult task - and is the part expensive. And I guess the bit I really don't understand is what is wrong with it now. The guy drives sweet as a but - starts, stops and goes like a rocket. This is not related to ECU reprogramming does it?

The fault code relates and is in fact a tolerance of the motor so no impact on the running in general. However the motor comes with the manifold and its not cheap but fairly straight forward to fit.

What happens is the plastic link arm wears causing the motor to move more than the ecu wishes so the manifold control is reading incorrect and as its emissions related the mil pings on, however in severe cases the tumblers break away in the manifold

The battery manager fault Date: 2010.05.03, priority 7 means

einfluss auf komfortfunktion kein einfluss auf die fahrzeugverfugbarkeit or influence on functional comfort no influence on the fahrzeugverfugbarkeit
    In short its ok

    1 Fault Found:
02272 - Quiescent Current Stage 1 (this is very low priority stage of battery manager intervention)
    000 - - - Intermittent (sporadic)
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00100000
Fault Priority: 7 (means importance of the fault and 1 means its a problem but 7 is no real issue just recording the priority)

Hello there A8 tech. I had the same code (012597-Intake manifold runner control:lower stop not reached. P3135-001-upper limit exceeded on my A6 3.0tdi so changed the motor [didn't come with the manifold just the motor]).
i deleted the fault code and the engine light went out,but the next time i started the engine the engine light came back on and stays on.Could you please tell me how i can get rid of the engine light if you can.
    many thanks in advance

the linkage between the manifold and the motor will be worn so the motor stop values are incorrect, you need to replace the manifold due to wearAttachment 9720
