Warning this might sound like a really dumb question....

The orange engine warning light is coming on intermittently in my 2006 A6 3.0tdi saloon. To be very honest I don't know when this started as the light is blocked from my eyeline by the steering wheel !!!

Anyhow, now I've seen it, sometime's it's on - sometimes not - but there isn't any noticeable difference in the drive or performance or economy between the 2 states.

The cars done 52k, 1 elderly owner before me and is the complete business in my view. I had it's ECU reprogrammed and now I get in excess of 50mpg on a run and awesome amounts of power when I need it :-)

I hardly ever use the car as I changed jobs soon after buying it and use my motorbike, but am going to France in it on hols in 3 weeks or so.

My question, finally, is this: If it drives fine should I ignore the warning light - or is this totally foolish ?

If anyone is still reading this perhaps suggestions - should I buy ebay leads and start to play with vag com, I'm computer literate etc.

    Thanks.

Look in the vagcom section for a member in your area with VCDS to scan the car...

Hmm .. Sometimes when the car is only used rarely the Diesel Particulate Filter may become clogged. The owners handbook suggests to drive 'sporty' for a few miles keeping revs high to unclog the filter.

Do this at your own risk as there may be actually something wrong with your engine

Hi. The EML light came on, on my 2.0tdi A6 about 5 weeks ago. As the car was still within warranty, I had it looked at by Lincoln Audi. They cleared the fault, and it arrived back to me with very little information as to what they did.
Only 5 days after getting it back the EML came on again - on the day we were due to travel to France! A very hurried call back to the dealer revealed the they had diagnosed a faulty DPF pressure sensor fault. They removed it, blew it out, and replaced it. As I couldn't get back out to the dealer, they suggested I ring Audi breakdown and have them look at it.
The breakdown guy duly arrived a couple of hours later, and within 5 minutes determined that the pressure sensor was clogged and needed to be changed. He was at a loss as to why the dealer didn't change it - it only cost about £45!
What he did say, was that if I'd tried to travel to France I might have got 400 miles before the car would have gone into limp-home mode. By then I would have been well and truly stuffed!
My recommendation would be to have it looked at immediately. If you have Audi breakdown assistance, use them, they really do know what they're talking about.

I had pretty much exactly the same thing. Called out Audi Assist and they cleared the fault, 5 hours later the EML was back on. Took it to the dealer and it was the pressure sensor, replaced under warrenty and all fine since.

Get it checked out, the Dealer told me the car was fine to drive around on for the week it would take them to look at it, but to not drive more than 500 miles as it would stuff the car and it would be my responsibility.

    Get it checked!
