I am in the process of getting my 1990 Mk2 8v GTi back on the road, one of the jobs I need to do is replace the Outlet and Inlet Manifold Gaskets. Please can anyone give some advice on how easy this is to do myself and any special tools etc that I need to purchase to make the job easier. Also need to know what I need to remove to get access to the bolts and any special methods needed to remove certain parts. Have already tried looking in the how to guides but cant seem to find anything on the subject.

Suggest you get a manual . Working on a car of this age does present many seized bolt/ nut challenges and unless you've got help / advice on hand it can lead to many problems . This is undoubtedly the case with disturbing exhausts that havn't been disturbed for many years.
    Good luck.
