HI all, I really need your guys technical knowledge!

    I have a 2000 (W) reg VW Golf 1.6 8v SR (AKL) engine.

It ran fine.. but would not start on the key, unless you blipped the throttle. So after reading up on various forums I decided to remove the throttle body and clean it with carb cleaner.

Did all this, and also cleaned the air flow meter.

Put it all back together and the car started first turn of the key! how ever idled at 1200rpm. then when you touch the throttle it return to 1300- and then hunts between 1200 - 1600 rpm.

So... I then called my friend who has vagcom he went in and checked for fault codes. nothing.. he then tried to do a throttle adaptation... but this fails every time and says not supported. if you do a reset it says reset then throws an error code saying unable to complete.. so he said go get a replacement throttle body...

so £75 later for a refurbished unit and fitting it all, I am still back at the same problem..

went to my local garage who I know well, he connected it to Snap-On Solus diagnostics. tried to perform a adapation and again says on both throttle bodies (not supported) so then he tried a reset. it says reset performed.

start the car... same problem still idles fast and hunts... as soon as you touch the pedal.

So took it to another friend who has a snap on verus diagnostics...

he said.. change the coolent temp sensor... £33 later from VW and same issue.

He then tried to carry out a reset, it says it has done this and if you watch the throttle body the butterfly valve moves.

but when you start... same issue.. I checked all earths under the battery and cleaned them. still same issue.

He called a tech at audi, they said try the relay .. replaced that.. same issue...

I am getting to the end of my patience now no matter what I try it does not seem to make any difference. and until I cleaned the throttle body it was fine and only would not start on the key unless you blipped the throttle....

Now when you scan the car for faults on versus (snap-on) you get error code..

00533 - idle speed regulation lower stop value

we have checked all vacuum's for leaks, checked air intake pipe and no leak. checked the gasket between throttle body, checked the inlet manifold for leaks.. and nothing... yet it still hunts and idles fast...

if you disconnect the mass air flow after about 15 seconds the engine returns to 900rpm but runs rough, and the hunting stops...

any help guys would be really really appreciated...

any idea why we are not able to run adaptions in vagcom?

    Many Thanks.

    Chris

I'm having pretty much the same issue (https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=101373).

Only thing I changed was the air intake housing as there was a air leak (chucked a new air filter in at the same time) but this did nothing. I cleaned the throttle body and the MAF which solved my slow response. Also ran the throttle adaption routine but again no difference. Reset ECU also no effect.

I'm thinking its the MAF and perhaps the contact cleaner I used has damaged it in some way. Hunting does stop randomly when I pull up to lights but this only happens about 20% of the time.
