    Hi Folks
    Car is a Nov 2001 1.6S 16v 65,000 mls MK4.
She is going into the local garage tomorrow to get a Wheel bearing/Hub, not sure which. When driving the car there is a noticable whirring droning sound which i think is coming from the passenger rear wheel.
The mechanic i am taking it to says it will either be £50 to £100 to sort out, depending on what the problem is.
Does this sound about right ?
Any and all input for this topic greatfully appreciated.
I was under the impression that cars with disc brakes at the back didn't have hubs, i thought it was only drum brakes had that. Shows you all what i know !!!!!!
Come on everyone, lets see what you have to say.
    Mark....

The droning noise that increases with speed certainly sounds like dying wheel bearings. If things spin, then it has to spin on something, ie a bearing.

£50 -£100 sounds about right. Whirring noise will be a knackered wheel bearing. Replace it asap..

Replace it when ever you like . it will just get noiser and noiser but there is no danger so take your time and make sure you know which one it is.

If you turn left and the noise worsens then you got a bad bearing on the right and vice versa.

Normally the front bearings go first so make sure you are not mistaking it. The rear ones are expensive to get done as more parts need to be replaced... I would put money on it being the front
