Trying to put my brothers Bora on the road for him, theres a few things that I have to do but the two that have me stumped so far are:

Battery is not charging once car is running, jump started it.

After starting the starter motor gives a weird whining noise on the wind down.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Sounds like a sticking starter motor. Mine does the same occasionally then stops for a while. I believe around £100 gets you a reconditioned unit.

Someone mentioned before that there is a DIY way of fixing these, anyone any experience of it??

Had a quick look in my trusty Haynes manual and they just suggest taking it to an auto electrician.

I think I've seen mechanically minded folk take them apart and replace the brushes but that was many years ago. If you're not sure then just about any auto electrican should be able to do it. The sort of small side-street place run by an old bloke who didn't have to pass a test to drive might be more interested in repairing than selling a new one.

Not sure how much the internals might have changed since then to exclude that option.
