Hi, my engine has just blown, bottom end had gone, it had done 180,000 miles so cant complain.

The engine is a 115 bhp pd type engine from a w reg year 2000 passat. The engine is a code ATJ.

I am looking for a 2nd hand engine, is there any other code engine that will fit and run ok with the ecu in this car. I have seen a few 130 engines, but not sure if they will work in my car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even of the engineis out of a seat, audi or vw (even the galaxy) just want to try to broaden my search to get a reasonalbt priced 2nd hand unit.

    Many thanks for your help.

    best regards, glyndwr1998

    Thaks for that bud,

unfortunately, already contacted the seller, engines not available whole, only in bits.

Any other ideas as to what engine codes will fit and work in my model pasat.

I have read that the ajm engine is suitable. Can anyone confirm this.

    many thanks.

I'd try and get a 130hp engine for it. Look for an AWX engine code.

That would mean you'd need the ecu and clocks as well though.

The 115hp engines being the first PD's are not that relieable and usually suffer from head gasket failure which means that 2nd hand they are quite rare.

    Thanks bigcol,

I`d like to try to get the correct unit for it if i can, without changing the ecu maf etc...

Its difficult out there to get a 2nd hand unit, may have to strip and repair mine, but dont really want to.

Thanks, any other ideas, or anyone know of a breaker or seller selling one let me know...

    Cheere.

Break it and buy another car mate, cheaper and hassleless option.

Your probably right bud, anything between 500 - 1000 pound for an engine, 2nd hand passat anywhere around 1000, something i`ll have to consider.

    Thanks

Or look for an MOT fail cheap that has a good lump in it, most times it's better to buy the whole car rather than parts, personally I'd write it off at that mileage and let someone else tinker with it, or you could have the bottom end re-done, how bad is it, if the bores are ok you can get away with shells, rings and a crank grind, if it's thrown a rod things get a bit more complicated then, if it's simply knocking, shells and a grind should do it, and ignore garages, go to a machine shop once you know what sizes you need.

Now Colin, I hate to disagree with you, however having had a 115bhp ATJ and running it up to 227k without any issues, as long as they are serviced regularly, I'd say they were no more unreliable than the 130bhp lumps. I still wish I had mine (stupid women drivers.....)
Nothing to see here, move along..

I am not saying it would be economic but there are a number of ATJ engines on ebay in Germany (www.ebay.de)
