Id get it plugged into a VAG approved diagnostics computer and see if it throws a code, which if if its electrical fault it will do.
I want to purchase a Vag com lead and software, Any ideas if this will do the job HERE

It looks a bargain, but I'm sure others have been caught out with it before, the only 100% way to have a fully functional diagnostics is a Ross Tech one, I'm almost certain the one you linked is ok for pre 05 cars, I could be wrong, but it looks like have the lead for the real price and the software will be useless.

Cheap, fake rip-off crap IMO. It could cause you more problems than it solves.

I note there are no screen shots of any of it in use, sets alarm bells ringing in my mind.

Spend the extra money to buy the genuine article, mine has proved 100% reliable and has saved a fortune in dealer charges. By buying genuine you are supporting the guys who put the effort in to design it (and therefore contributing to future improvements) and you also get top notch help and support from them should you ever need it.

That cable and saftware won't work on a b6 passat. You have to have a genuine ross-tech dongle and software. Beware the cheap Chinese fake one that keeps appearing on ebay.

I connected the Front Left Vehicle Level Sender and now the "AFS inoperative see owners manual" warning msg has disappeared . Just need to see if the headlights have raised so I get a better distance on low beam....So hopefully....Happy Days..

Good stuff mate, hopefully sorted now then

Unfortunately, as stated, you need genuine Ross Tech VAG-COM (the latest one) as I have the old one but it isnt compatible with newer Vw's as they have this new CANBUS system..
06 Vw Passat 2.0TDI SE Wagon. Daily
89 Vw Polo Cl Saloon. Project
    03 Seat Leon TDI. Gone.

The suspension level sensors are vital for the headlight range control. The connector that was not connected would stop the headlights self levelling. You need to have a good look at the left swivelling headlight unit. The fault code is complaining that the angle sensor is not ok. The control unit needs information from the angle sensor to know how much the light has swivelled. Not easy to test as the light only swivels when driving along.

I borrowed a Ross Tech Diagnostic lead and laptop off a friend and did a Auto Scan which came back with faults.
Could I take the printed fault report to my Main VW service centre and ask them to have a look at the report and get a quote for the repairs saving me a few quid, Or do I have to have them connect their Diagnostic tool to the car and getting the same faults?

    Many thx
