    Hi All,

I really hope someone can help.

Tried to start my car after going to the shops the other day ant the immobiliser acvtivated light came on and it will start but run only for about a second.

I've tried my spare key in case I'd damaged the original but no joy, it still won't run.

If I leave the ignition on, I then get the emission workshop light then the engine workshop light, but as I say the engine starts and I had no problems right up until the immobiliser issue.

I've tried disconnecting the battery and leaving the key in the on postion for 20 mins 2 suggestions I was given) but nothing changed.

    Really hoping someone can help.

    Thanks

Where are you located? you may need to get the immo paired with the keys again as for some unknown reason it has had a memory wipe.

    Hi,

    Thanks for responding.

I've had a VW assist tecchie look at it as a favour and when he plugged his kit in, he said that the immobiliser and the ECU were unpaired but also that he was getting an error message that there was no communication with the ECU.

Its going into the main dealers on Saturday now so god only knows how much this is gonna cost.

Just praying that the release code only VW can generate will sort it out.

By the way I'm in Stockport

Join the cl, but immobiliser unsepcified fausts, abs faults, electric window faults etc etc etc.

Its a lovely car but once I have fixed the latest massive repir bill its goibg to someone else and I will revert to a ford that I can dump when it goes wrong or VAUXHALL WHICH PROBALY WONT GO WORNG IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH COMPANY CARS

    best of luck

    Pete

ub..... Whne I had my ecu interrogated there were 16 error messages. The lastes hit is turbo overboost and then then immediate loss of 100bhp until you switch off and restart. They have not a c;lue what is causing this. This car is too complicated byhalf. I had your problem nd it was fixed in 2 mins free of charge andthis at least has never comeback

    Hi all,
    Quick update.

Monday car went into main dealers and diagnostic test reported multiple fault codes but dealers unable to identify fault, so they said it was put on a factory test overnight after checking all the wiring from the ecu to the immobiliser and ignition.

Tuesday sames fault codes reported by latest test, so these were then sent to Milton Keynes VW HQ where codes and problem with immobiliser are compared to european database with similar faults, and possible solutions reported back to dealers where my car is.

Wednesday No resolution from the suggestions from Milton Keynes, so car now having another diagnositic run by a German technician online from germany, if they still don't get a result, then a technician from Milton Keynes will come to inspect car and if that fails then a German engineer comes to inspect it.

Glad I'm not paying for this lot.

Finally they've diadnosed the fault on but only after borrowing an ECU of another car.

The ECU has gone and I'm being quoted £1100.00 to replace and fit it.

The dealers tried to get some goodwill from VW but they said no due to the fact that the car is six years old and the last two services were not main dealer.

They reckon at the dealership that it's five hours labour to replace and recode etc which seems a bit excessive to me (does anyone know how long it actually takes?), although the guy has discounted the labour from £85. per hour (OMG) to £60.00 (still OMG).

Hi, sorry to resurrect this old thread but I'm curious, did the ecu solve the problem, we're in the same boat currently :-(

Oh thank you man. To explain it in full would require a lot of writing and reading!
So I'll just say that I had this "immobil.activated" fault code appear on my '03 Mk 4 Bora from August to November last year. Then it stopped for 6 months, now it's back!
Pretty confident it's not keys as both or neither work. It's very itnermittent. Tried chanaing the battery, checked some grounds, checked all the fuses were in the right slots and working. Checked resistance across pickup reader as per advice on another forum so don't *think* it's that.
If you would like the full run down of what's happened, please let me know and I will copy and paste something from another forum. But it's long
    Cheers,
    David.

Edit: I just realised you probably mean to do a scan/reset - I already had a couple of VAGCOM scans - first guy tried a reset - wouldn't work though.
