    Hello,

This might sound a little daft but I'm after the fabric tape used in OEM installation of audio equipment.

You would probably seen the stuff if you've ever changed speakers or in fact dealt with any wiring in your car. The best way i can describe it is electrical tape with a kind of felt finish on the outside.

I'm after a roll so i can line the edges of the plastic noisy bloody dash!

Normal electrical tape just won't do.

I've trawled ebay and google searching for various things but with no luck, does anyone know the correct name or where i cpuld get some?

    Thanks in advance

You and me both! I've also got a rattle coming from the drivers seat belt area on the b pillar. I think its the adjustable plastic piece but was concerned about removing anything due to the airbags.

If the tape doesn't work i think i'll turn it into a touring car - no dash!

Read POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE HALIFAX VW LINK re problems I have encountered with the noisy dash.
You are probably better off repairing it yourself, as you will no doubt take more care. The dash squeak is a common fault with the earlier PAssats and VWUK's instruction to the dealership is to pack the dash at its point of contact with the sticky backed felt. This works for a short period but ends up expanding the clips and fastenings so you are back to square one. If the car is under warranty take it back to them for repair but there is no guarantee of a resolution to the squeak. Mines been returned after 14 attempts to sort and its still squeaking!!
If you want to repair it yourself be cheeky and ask the service department for two strips of tape, each came about 20 inches long, and insist they should come for free as it is a recognized fault by VW

I buy the loom tape in bulk once a year but not from vag as there rolls are small and over priced, as for noise reduction tape I do not use the loom tape I use felt strip and double sided tape as its easier to work and more affective.

The best solution for noises/creaks from the dash is trim is to use dum dum, this is excellent and multi purpose with great texture to work it into any shape or thickness

    Hi,
Can you please explain how you use it on the rear of the plastic trim/dash panels... found out its a putty based product but i haven't figured if you paint it all over the clips/recesses for the trim or what???

Ironically I was loaned a Brand new Passatt CC and the dash is as quiet as can be and has rock solid fitting fittings. No flex in the dash parts at all, therefore total silence.
