a3 reving up!!! - a classic example of a post in the WRONG SECTION

i have a 2000 w reg audi a3, i was in 4th gear driving about 40mph, all of a sudden without my feet on the pedels it revs up to 4000 revs and keeps a continuous speed of 40mph, but does no inscrease. both pedels were not stuck, and when i tried to put my foot on the accelerator it judders and slows downa little?? it is quite intermitant, so it doesnt always do it.

does anyone have any idea on what it would be??

At a guess, slipping clutch, but if you pop over to the Audi A3 section in the forum there's likely to be a person who can diagnose it much better.

from the forum main page, scroll down until you see 'audi-sponsored by tutts of dorking'. click on this and then scroll down until you see 'a3-s3' . click on this, choose your model year and click on that.
