Hi all, i have a problem with my brakes.
It has only happened twice when conducting an emergency stop. On both occasions, when i have gone to stop the car in a hurry the car comes to a halt even though i have taken my foot off the pedal.

eg i am travelling along, a car overtakes me and then decides to stop sharpish infront of me (thanks). I then go to scrub my speed, and apply the brakes in a hurry. Now i intend to release the brake whilst still moving and carry on with my journey. However the car has other ideas and once i have lifted my foot form the pedal, the pedal stays down, and i come to complete halt. I just sit there with the pedal down, unable to move and for some reason wether me pressing down on the pedal a few times, it is released it and i am then able to pull away again.

    Strange or what!
    any ideas
    Fozzie!

yep could be....i had a simalar prob with a ford and it was the pads getting stuck in the calipers....quick clean with a wire brush and a small screwdriver and a small amount of cooper grease in the guides on the callipers....all was ok after that..

    Fozzie

did you get to the bottom of this problem??

I parked and stopped the other day outside a shop, when i got back to car and tried to pull away, the brakes were locked on and pedal was rock solid at top.

Tried to press pedal but it wouldn't move, turned engine off and left it 5 mins, tried again still solid and then just released itself.

No problems for 3 weeks and then it did it again if lane 3 during a rubber neck hold up. pressed pedal 3-4 times (flicking it with foot) and it relased.

After 20mins on hard shoulder drove home and ok again.

Is it the servo or master cylinder etc HELP !!!!

    Nez

    Thanks Fozzie
Just took mine apart B*$t4RD of a job. I think servo has gone £240 dealer only (ouch), spoke with VW fitter asking for advice, and he said not sure what may have caused it and said he had only changed one servo on passat and that was about 5 years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!

I will let you know how i get on....
