    Hi,

Please could someone help me to open the tailgate on my 2002 passat estate.

I have always had to use the key to open it, which was fine. Then a few weeks ago I had to start flicking the switch in the driver's door to loosen it, before using the key to open it. Now even this doesn't work and I am stuck with the tailfgate locked all the time. When I flick the driver's door switch I hear the electrics but no clunk as used to happen when the tailgate loosened.

I have wedged a bit of the trim off and had a look but cannot see anything obvious.

    All suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Ted

Thanks for that - the rod seems to be disconnected as I could not see it when I took as much of the trim off as I could. I will go and take another look.

I found two screws in the hand holds - but could not see the other two - anyone know where they are?

    Many thanks,

    Ted

Thanks - I managed to finger the boot open after breaking into the lower part of the trim.

So now I have the trim off and I can see what looks to be the frayed end of a cable that looks like it should connect to the end of the key barrel - see the photo.

Can anyone explain how I can repair this / how it is meant to fit together / what parts do I need to buy.

    Very many thanks,

    Ted
