coolant seems to be fairly new although will probably change that anyway
and i don't know if power steering fluid has been changed.
you reckon it's worth doing that as well?

i think the haldex filter is only on the quattro and models with triptronic box, i have a 2 wheel drive manual 1.8t 2004 model but mine does not have one.

The Audi haldex system is a completely different set up to the permanent quattro 4 wheel drive system, the haldex is used on most audi TT's and the S3, it is fluid driven via an ecu and basically the TT's and S3's are only 2 wheel drive, being the front wheels, and when the front wheels start to spin up, drive is transmitted to the rear wheels via the haldex system.

So to sum it up, Quattro, permanent 4 wheel drive

Haldex is 2 wheel drive until the front wheels start to spin, then the rears drive too.

Personally I wouldn't touch the power steering fluid. By all means check the fluid levels and top up as required. Coolant (if strength is low) and brake fluid changes (every 2 years) are worthwhile maintenance fixes. Once car get's over 100k I'd be tempted to change the transmission fluid too - especially if you plan to keep the car.

Hi, I am new to this as well having owned by 1.8T 190 A4 with 95K. It is the Quattro. How often is the 4 wheel drive due to be serviced?

    Thanks

The rear diff is a sealed for life unit and the gear oil shouldn't need renewed. Ask your local Audi dealer and you'll be met with a blank expression. Personally, I'd renew the gear oil if I was keeping the car after 100k for another few years. Call it preventative maintenance. Just got a quote from Audi for the specialist oil which (ain't cheap) at £85 for 3 litres for the transmission and 2 litres for the rear diff for my V6 Quattro. It only takes 2.4 litres and 1.75 lires respectively, but they come in 1 litre bottles.
