    Hi all,
I just thought about this yesterday as i was taking the better half to work the other day in her Golf GTTDI.

We were on the way down a snowy hill with a bit of a bend in it half way down. I stopped at the top just to check out the situation and see how people were getting on going down it before i had a go. As you can imagine the people trying to get up the hill were struggling as they were crawling up and were obviously going to stop and get stuck due to lack of momentum. The people in front of me ( 1 in a 750i ) had no problem just rolling down there in a short gear, so i left a big big gap and trundled my way down the hill.As i got to the bit of a bend in the road the traction control light started to flash even though i wasnt on the throttle at all and the engine stalled
i was still moving and gathering pace and heading across the road towards the cars trying to get up the hill. As you can imagine my left ear was bleeding by now due to the screeming coming from the other half ( which didnt help the situation one bit ha ) I went for the ignition key and started the car, selected 2nd gear, pulled at the handbrake and piled on the power, By this time everything in the car had gone very quiet ( thing this was due to burst ear drums ) Anyway, i missed the first car ( Jag XF ) and pleased to say i missed the other 4 or 5 as well, cant tell you what the were coz by this time i was in Seb Loeb mode flicking left and right past them to try and avoid an incident. We managed to get past them all without a scratch ( thank the lord )
That would never have happened if i took the BM

Who says men cant multi task

Would like to read your near misses. So post away please.

    Scary stuff.
No just scuffed alloys and a nice dent above the rear wheel arch someone has left me. The door mirror was wacked whilst I was parked up and guessing the same motorist dented the wheel arch.

Yesterday went to my girlfriend's in Oldham and followed a Punto up a small incline only for us all to have to reverse as his piece of Italian sheite would not move

Oi! I had a Punto and it was great... hence someone decided to steal it overnight!!!

Had a really close shave the other day involving a total, utter knob in a HGV. I was driving on the A34 near Didsbury (just passing the Parrs Wood Tesco on the left for those who live nearby ) when the said knob cut right across me from the right hand lane into my left hand lane... I assume to avoid a bit of snow. What he didn't realise is he pushed me right out into the layby... where a beached Merc C Class was sitting! He swung straight back into the right hand lane afterwards.

The mong didn't even realise he'd done it, hence his rather confused face when an angry Mr B launched a foul mouthed onslaught at him at the next set of traffic lights.

I actually thought my T5 was going to end up with some very nasty damage. Far too close a shave for my liking.

I Had a very close shave yesterday! Unfortunatley the car didnt survive.
I slowed to a halt at the traffic lights leading onto a roundabout on a motorway slip road, when a glimpse in the mirror revealed a large van approaching at a rate of knots with the front wheels locked. Then Bang im going forward into the side of a HGV between tractor unit and trailer. when I opened my eyes the middle of the three wheels was next to my window with the first trailer wheel having rode over the bonnet, when I was able to get out the O/S/F wheel was at 45 degrees from vertical and the bonnet wings engine etc was crushed. The rear was flattened to the rear of the rear wheel arch.
I was taken to hospital because of the blood coming from my ear, must have been the airbag pressure
The fact the doors still opened is testament to the strenth of structure,
Sad end to the Noble Passat. May have a change vw's not been too lucky recently
Oh and another thing when I spoke to the police half of the things in the boot Laptop, new camera, tools have dissapeared while they were having it recovered
    Not Happy John

Apart from currently unavailable winter tyres (?), what tyres would you guys recommend for an A3 to cope in these conditions and be good through the winter when it is wet and muddy?
