    Shamelessly pinched from UK-MKIV's, here is the link and note there is another link to a thread on another forum that is up to debating this matter !

    Here is the MKIV's link...

    http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/thread/918291.aspx

    I'm known as ct.p over there by the way and I say;

    IT WILL TAKE OFF

    Have a look at this thread, it really is very clever and you'll either get it or you won't !

    lol, 525 pages!

    Obviously as plane wings create downward thrust by bending the airflow over them diagonally downwards, the only way lift would ever be generated is if the combined jet exhaust and conveyor movement caused the airflow over the plane to equal or exceed takeoff speed.

    Or a very windy day.

    The conveyor (depending on surface texture) would have to be travelling at high mach speeds to allow this.

    It would not fly. lol

    The only way it could take off, is if the air flow was travelling with the conveyor belt.

    This reminds me of the old budgie in the truck question.

    If a lorry, fully enclosed, was carrying 1 tonne of budgies, and they all took off at the same time still within the confines of the truck, would the truck weigh a tonne less?

    My answer to this is that it would weigh 1 tonne less if the budgies were flying at a sufficient height so that they did not transfer any of their weight to the floor of the truck through the wind beneath them.

    In that link (the one on UK-MKIV's) my user name is ct.p and I'm in the minority on there thinking WOULD, most think it wouldn't. I've only had time to have a look at the 500+ pager linked from that link.

    This was also on another car forum, it did not go on quite as long but nearly.
    I believe the question is worded slightly different in the one I have seen. Some iterations of the question (I believe from a school physics exam?) constrain the aircraft such that it is not allowed to move any quicker than the conveyor. This one I think does not. However I can be convinced otherwise
